Linda Lieffers

Linda Lieffers is a Canadian-born contemporary artist whose work is shaped by light, water, atmosphere, and the dramatic landscape of the Baja Peninsula.

Born in Saskatchewan, Canada, Linda moved to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, in 2001. What began as a move south became a life deeply connected to the sea and desert. After 25 years in Los Cabos, the shifting light, expansive skies, and powerful presence of the ocean have become an enduring influence on the way she sees and creates.

Linda began painting in 2018, coming to the practice later in life and developing her technique through an intensive, self-directed exploration of paint, color, and light. Her work has evolved rapidly from her earliest paintings into large-scale, highly detailed oil works that explore luminosity, movement, depth, and atmosphere.

Her current Submerged series draws the viewer beneath the surface of the water into vast, cinematic environments where light filters through suspended plumes, currents, and rising bubbles. Linda builds her paintings slowly through layers of oil, creating an almost photographic sense of depth while retaining the physical presence and subtle imperfections of the painted surface.

Rather than simply depicting water, Linda is interested in the feeling of being surrounded by it—the silence, weightlessness, mystery, and fleeting transformations of light that occur beneath the surface.

Linda lives and paints in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where she maintains her studio and continues to develop the Submerged series.
