I am thrilled this 72” is completed. I have been on a goal to get at least 10 large underwater paintings created for my new collection “Submerged” This is number 4… the very first one sold immediately after posting so I am feeling good about this direction! Hopefully the algorithm agrees but probably not!😫

There’s always a point in a painting when I wonder if I’ve pushed it far enough… or if I’m about to push it too far.

I’ve spent weeks with this 60 × 90 inch canvas, working slowly, changing passages, softening some areas and strengthening others. Some days the changes were obvious. Other days, barely noticeable.

That’s the part of painting I love most — when it stops being about the reference and becomes about trusting what the painting needs.

This one challenged me, but I’m calling it finished.

I’ve spent weeks with this 60 × 90 inch canvas, working slowly, changing passages, softening some areas and strengthening others. Some days the changes were obvious. Other days, barely noticeable.

Work still in progress — just getting down the first layer of oil on this 60” × 90”

This new series feels like a coming together of so much of my past work. I’m still forming clouds, only now underwater. I’m still blending to create depth, using contrast to create light, and keeping everything atmospheric.

What’s new is the introduction of more realistic passages, bringing atmosphere and realism together in hopes of creating something that feels increasingly cinematic.

A long way to go, but I’m loving where this is heading!

It’s better to step back now and observe for awhile instead of overworking it.

Second sweep of paint going down!
I work wet on wet, slowly building depth and atmosphere in thin layers. Right now it’s all about getting the water right-the darkest passages, subtle shifts in value and the feeling of light moving through the ocean.
I spend a lot of time squinting at the canvas. It helps me see the shapes that matter and the passages that transform the image from a painting into something more cinematic.

From my series Salt & Sea.

This is the second work in my new series and honestly, these paintings have been pushing me in ways I didn’t expect!

They live somewhere between control and surrender.

I begin by creating my own digital reference in Procreate, sometimes spending weeks adjusting color, movement, atmosphere, transparency, and structure before I ever touch the canvas.
Even then, once the oil paint starts moving, everything changes again. Some areas evolve, exactly as planned… others completely fight me and force new decisions.

Now I’m working up the nerve to begin the next piece:
60” H x 90” W

Bigger scale. Bigger risk.
But I think that’s where the work starts getting interesting!

We recently took down the very first piece sold from my Held in the Light series — Electric Being — and I am now preparing it to ship framed to its new home in the United States.

What makes this one so special is that I met the collector while live painting in the pool at The Viceroy. We spoke about what draws people toward certain pieces of art and the emotional connection behind collecting. Two days after returning home, she purchased the piece.

So grateful for moments like this — meeting collectors in person and hearing their stories makes this journey incredibly meaningful.
